Charles Eames was one of the most influential architects and furniture designers of the 20th Century.

Born in America at the turn of the century, he soon became interested in specialist architecture and went to college

to study it before forming his own practice in 1930 with two business partners.

Eames met his second wife Ray in 1941 and they went on to forge both a successful relationship

of the most important furniture pieces of the 20th century. It was the first chair to be mass-produced using moulded

plywood - a process developed by Eames which eliminated the need to use superfluous wood to connect the seat

with the back, resulting in a lighter, more slender profile. His pre-eminent work can be attributed with the credit

for helping make modern furniture design what it is today.
