LC3 Chair Le Grand Confort Armchair

Designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand in 1928, the LC3 armchair, was one of their first pieces of furniture.

In 1929, Le Corbusier turned the traditional club chair inside out – and created a design icon. The LC3 Chair, also known as Le Grand Confort Armchair, was part of a ground-breaking furniture group that took the lowly chair and sofa frame out of hiding and put it on display as a dramatic and visible component of the design.

The resulting chair, a simple, tubular steel structure fitted with almost decadently comfortable down wrapped, leather-covered cushions, was a plump, upholstered answer to the lean art deco aesthetic that dominated the era. Amazingly, the chair, which debuted at the 1929 Salon d’Automne art exhibition in Paris, is as relevant, fresh and modern today as it was when it was first seen in the 1920s.

The Le Corbusier group, which on this particular project included Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, referred to their LC3 and the similar, smaller-scaled LC2 collections as “cushion baskets,” created to provide a modernist take on the ubiquitous club chair.

LC3 chair's externalised chromed steel frame barely contains the leather-clad, down-wrapped cushions. Yadea Furniture LC3 Chair is with 100% genuine Full Grain Aniline leather and Italian leather, Polished Stainless Steel frame and Multi-density, CA-117 compliant cushions.
